The San Jose Museum of Art unveiled its New Wing in 1991. The 45,000-square-foot addition tripled the Museum's exhibition space, offering state-of-the-art interiors and storage facilities.

Built in 1872, the Museum's Historic Wing has played a significant role in the daily life of San Jose. Listed in the National Registry of Historic Places, the building is one of only a few examples of Richardsonian Romanesque architecture in California. The Historic Wing was re-dedicated on October 18, 1997.
